In the Maldives, the government of Mohammed Muisu is perceived as pro-Chinese and the opposition there is pro-India. The Maldivian opposition has been criticizing the Muisu government for deteriorating relations with India.

Clashes erupted in the Maldivian Parliament on Sunday over the approval of the addition of four members to President Mohamed Muisu’s cabinet.

As these differences grew, clashes broke out between supporters of the Muisu government and opposition parliamentarians.

Some Members of Parliament went near the Speaker’s seat and raised their voices.

The situation worsened to the extent that some MPs suffered head injuries and one MP was rushed to hospital.

Videos related to this clash in Parliament are also going viral on social media.

There is an alliance between the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People’s National Congress (PNC). This coalition is in power.

The alliance wants to make 4 new ministers. But the opposition does not want this.

The Maldives’ main opposition party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), demanded that the parliamentary approval of the four cabinet members be withheld.

Subsequently, the members of parliament supporting the government of Muhammed Muisu protested against the opposition parties. This led to a conflict between the two sides. Parliamentary proceedings were also affected.
