Clashes and deaths linked to insecurity are falling regularly in Burkina

Ouagadougou, Nov. 18, 2023 (AIB) – The number of accidents and resulting cases of death have fallen slightly but steadily over the last three years, according to official data consulted on Saturday by the AIB

If the trend continues, with 471 deaths in the first quarter of 2023, the number of deaths linked to traffic accidents will be below 1,000 for this year, compared to 1,150 in 2022 and 1,272 in 2021, according to data provided by the National Road Safety Office (ONASER).

The total number of accidents is also declining, with 25,118 cases in 2021, 24,686 cases in 2022 and fewer than 24,000 cases at the end of 2023, according to projections.

ONACER officials attribute these accidents to excessive speed and the recklessness of users. They also announced their intention to crack down on violators of the obligation to wear seat belts and to continue raising awareness about wearing helmets.
