After the suspension of artisanal gold and diamond mining throughout the national territory, the situation is starting to turn bad in Kintinia, a sub-prefecture located 35 km from the centre of Siguiri.
As proof, yesterday Tuesday July 9, 2024, an incident broke out between law enforcement officers and artisanal gold miners. And stone throwing was on the agenda. According to the information we received on site, the officers were simply passing through. Suddenly, we were informed, “they (artisanal gold miners) started throwing stones and an officer was injured…”
Faced with this situation which currently prevails in Siguiri, the prefect made an important statement in which he provided certain clarifications.
“We are not against anyone, the decision is national and we do not like the suffering of our populations. The officers were passing through, they threw stones at them and finally, an officer was injured. We are here to protect citizens and their property. Those who want to turn this situation into a conflict, it is not a question of conflict. I appeal to everyone to kindly respect this decision and especially to respect the authority of the law. The police, gendarmes and soldiers are not against anyone. I am counting on the patriotic spirit of the brave populations of Siguiri” said Dr. Maramani Cissé in his statement.
The latest news is that the SAG military PA has been destroyed. The injured man is reportedly undergoing treatment.
