A spectacular backdrop, world-class musicians and 8,000 seats in the open air: The concept for the two-day Munich open-air spectacle “Classic at the Odeonsplatz” worked again this year.

München.

The two-day open-air spectacle “Klassik am Odeonsplatz” came to an end on Sunday in downtown Munich with a brilliant evening of music. The highlight of the second open-air concert evening was the appearance of the star pianist Lang Lang, who devotedly, virtuously and sympathetically presented a piano concerto by Edvard Grieg. The spectators celebrated his performance and the encore with thunderous applause.

The Colombian Andrés Orozco-Estrada also won the hearts of the audience. He conducted the Munich Philharmonic, which played Wagner’s “Tannhäuser Overture” and pieces by Richard Strauss and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, with so much charm, charisma and irrepressible energy that the 8,000 or so spectators only heard the ensemble after two lavish encores – the “Carmen -Overture” and the “Radetzky March” – let the balmy summer evening come to an end.

The evening before, the open-air stage in one of the most beautiful places in Munich belonged to the choir and symphony orchestra of the Bavarian Radio. In front of the magnificent backdrop of the open Feldherrnhalle, in which the ensemble was seated, star conductor Christian Thielemann led the enthusiastic audience enthusiastically and powerfully through the evening, which was all about Verdi.

The popular two-day open-air event “Klassik am Odeonsplatz” took place for the 22nd time this year. At the music event, which has always been sold out for years, one of the two major Munich orchestras performs on one evening – usually with famous guests. (dpa)
