This Saturday, La Ruta de la Patagonia will premiere on Channel 13, the last program that the journalist recorded before his death.

Mónica Jauregui, mother of journalist Claudio Iturra, gave details of her son’s latest project before his deathassuring that he will do it in his honor.

Jauregui, who was a partner in Iturra’s production company and travel agency, referred to the launch of La Ruta de la Patagonia, her son’s posthumous program that will premiere on Channel 13 this Saturday, June 29.

“Claudio wanted to show the world how beautiful Patagonia is and the possibilities that existed for vacationing there. He wanted to mobilize tourism in that area. In addition, his great desire was to show the people of this place, all kind and simple people whom he loved very much,” he said.

Claudio Iturra’s mother recalled that the journalist was amazed by his trip to the south of the country, pointing out that “he told me about the rivers of Hornopirén, where he went rafting; also, the Tagua Tagua Park with its imposing mountains and the lagoon with thousand-year-old larches.”

“Besides, He told me that he was impressed with Pumalín Park, in the Province of Palena, He was very interested in the story of Douglas Tompkins and admired the legacy that this man left behind,” he added.

Mónica Jauregui said her son fell in love with the area after going backpacking at age 15 with his older brother.

“This bond was so important that he ended up buying a piece of land in Villa O’Higgins and I am going to finish building it in his honor. He told me that it was his resting place, Mom, that’s where I disconnect, I find myself, and I love its people, they are simple, kind and loving.“, Jauregui said.

The Patagonia route will follow the entire southern highway, starting at kilometer zero in Puerto Montt in the Los Lagos Region, and will pass through its canals, rivers and fjords until reaching Villa O’Higgins in the Aysén Region.
