Standings: On Monday, August 5, Matchday 5 of the Clausura Tournament of Lig 1 2024 was completed. Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, and Universitario de Deportes are competing for the top spot in the second short championship of the season. Additionally, the ‘cremas’ and ‘celestes’ share the lead in the accumulated standings.

Alianza continues on the winning path. The team led by Diego Ortiz on an interim basis overturned the score against Comerciantes Unidos as visitors. The ‘cutervine eagles’ opened the match with a goal from Matías Sen, but the ‘blanquiazules’ came back with a double from Hernán Barcos and a goal from Carlos Zambrano.

The ‘íntimos’ secured their second consecutive victory after the defeat in the clásico against Universitario and after benefiting from some results managed to take first place in the Clausura standings with a two-point lead over the ‘merengues’ and the ‘cervecero’ club. In contrast, the home team has accumulated four losses and is at the bottom of the current local tournament.

Sporting Cristal faced Carlos Mannucci at the Alberto Gallardo stadium and secured the three points. The ‘cervecero’ team decisively defeated their Trujillo rival with a resounding score of 4-0, following a hat-trick from Martín Cauteruccio, and managed to climb the standings.

With this positive result, the ‘celestes’ not only reached the podium of the Clausura Tournament, but also solidified their position as leaders of the accumulated standings, above Universitario. Undoubtedly, the victory against the ‘carlistas’ has been important to stay strong in the fight for the trophy.

Melgar faced Unión Comercio as visitors, debuting their status as leaders – by goal difference – of the Clausura. Their visit to the Peruvian jungle did not go as planned. Although they started off on the right foot with a stunning goal from Bernardo Cuesta just 30 seconds in, they were unable to maintain the lead and ended up defeated 2-1 by a brace from Marlon de Jesús.

Universitario faced UTC at the National Stadium aiming to overcome the bitter defeat against the ‘dominó’ which energized their opponents to continue the fight in the last tournament. The ‘cremas’ secured a thrilling victory with a spectacular free-kick goal by Gabriel Costa. They arrived with heightened morale to celebrate their 100th institutional anniversary.

Alianza Atlético settled for a draw against Sport Huancayo as locals in Sullana, repeating the score from their previous match. The ‘northern whirlwind’ reached six points and settled in the middle of the table. The same case applies to the ‘red killer’ who, with seven points, is in 10th place.

Sport Boys lost to Cusco FC as visitors and suffered a negative score for the third time in this second short tournament. The ‘rosados’ are five points away from the relegation zone. The ‘imperial’ team, on the other hand, continues to rise and achieved three consecutive victories that allow it to be close to the leaders and in Conmebol spots.
