Cleared the smoke: Marseille beat Clermont 0:2

by time news

After PSG’s loss, the fight for the championship title in France was reopened. Marseille stood up to the pressure and beat Clermont 2:0 tonight (Saturday) away, narrowing the gap from the leader to only 5 points.

The start of the match was delayed for 45 minutes due to a riot outside Clermont’s stadium and dispersed by the police after the use of tear gas. Anyway on the pitch, Marseille got the job done with a successful penalty by Alexis Sanchez in the 44th minute after a handball by Mohamed Cham in the box.

Nine minutes from time, Sanchez completed a brace and celebrated his ninth goal of the season after latching on to a rebound in the box (Chengiz Onder’s shot was deflected onto the crossbar by Murray Diaw) and scoring from close range to seal the deal.

After the loss to Nice in the Velodrome, Igor Todor’s team responded in a great way with a victory over PSG in the cup and now three difficult points against the 11th ranked. Next week Marseille, who reached 49 points, will meet Toulouse.
