Climate Protest Disrupts Frankfurt Airport, Resulting in 140 Flight Cancellations

by time news

FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – Due to the climate protest action at Frankfurt Airport, around 140 flights have been canceled. For the rest of the day, delays in operations are to be expected, reports the operator Fraport. Passengers are advised to check their flight status on the airlines’ websites before heading to the airport. A total of 1,400 take-offs and landings were planned for Thursday.

Just under three hours after eight individuals breached the airport grounds, the runways were cleared for flight operations again at 07:50. The federal police have detained the activists of the “Last Generation” and handed them over to the Hessian state police for prosecution, according to a spokesperson.

A Fraport spokesperson condemned the actions. They endangered flight operations and ultimately human lives. “The perpetrators face severe penalties and high civil claims for damages.”/ceb/DP/jha
