CAVALESE. On the morning of August 22, the Carabinieri of Operational Nucleus of the Cavalese Carabinieri Company together with their colleagues from the PG Section at the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Trento, they tracked down and arrested in Guastalla (RE), a Romanian citizen believed to be at the top of the criminal structure dedicated to the fuel card serial cloning and massive fuel thefts dismantled by the Carabinieri last June 4th with the “Free Fuel” operation.
The man, resident in Romania and recipient of a MAE (European Arrest Warrant) issued in this context, was the contact person of the association for the procurement of the so-called “skimmers”, i.e. sophisticated devices capable of capturing and recording the data contained in magnetic cards and the respective PIN codes used.
From what has emerged from the investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of the PG Section and those of the NOR of Cavalese, the wanted man who revealed a high criminal profile has always maintained a low profile leaving no trace of his movements by moving with cars registered to third parties to make himself untraceable.
The investigations have documented how the suspect he shuttled between Romania and Italywith “work” trips in the company of accomplices from Trentino also to Spain, where an operational cell of the gang had been identified. The arrested person was described by the suspects themselves as one of the top European referents capable of assembling and selling such devices. With this prestigious capture, the execution phase of the 27 precautionary measures concludes.
