Closing the Strasbourg Parliament during the energy crisis? France says no!

It is a sea serpent that regularly comes to the surface of the European debate: according to the treaties which govern the functioning of the European Union (EU), the plenary sessions of the European Parliament are held in Strasbourg, but all the preliminary work of the deputies takes place in Brussels, where the standing committees sit. Thus, the community organization involves keeping two offices open and moving hundreds, even more than a thousand people, every month between the Belgian capital and the Alsatian metropolis.

An absurdity in terms of energy expenditure and environmental impact according to some, all the more so with the energy crisis that is looming. This is why German MEP Peter Liese (CDU) has decided to put the subject back on the table.
