Kolkata: In West Bengal, TMC declared 42 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. After this announcement, discord started in the family of CM Mamata Banerjee. His younger brother Swapan Banerjee alias Babun Banerjee has announced to contest the elections as an independent candidate from Howrah. Babun was not happy with giving ticket to Trinamool Congress candidate Prasun Banerjee from Howrah. Annoyed Mamata called Babun Banerjee greedy and announced breaking the relationship. Mamta Banerjee said that sometimes people become greedy as they grow older and create problems in elections. I don’t like such people. After Didi’s displeasure, Babun softened his tone and apologized. TMC alleged that BJP is now targeting the Banerjee family for election gimmicks. However, BJP leader Sukant Majumdar termed the family discontent as Mamata Banerjee’s drama. He said that BJP does not need the Banerjee family to win the elections. Earlier, Didi’s other younger brother Karthik Banerjee had also hinted at rebellion. Abhishek Banerjee’s stature also created turmoil in the family.
Mamta Banerjee has been active in politics for the last four decades. In 1984, he created a stir by defeating veteran leftist leader Somnath Chatterjee from Jadavpur Lok Sabha seat. Mamta, who started her politics with Youth Congress, has been holding the post of Chief Minister of West Bengal continuously since 2011. Banerjee family’s dominance increased after TMC came to power in 2011
