The administration of US President Joe Biden sent the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns to Moscow in order to negotiate the situation around Ukraine. According to CNN, citing American and Ukrainian sources, Washington believes that Russia is concentrating troops near the Ukrainian border.

According to sources, the US is worried about the “unusual” movement of Russian troops and military equipment to the northern border of Ukraine. Burns’ task during the negotiations was to understand the purpose of these decisions by Moscow.

“After meetings in Russia, Burns held telephone conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky,” the channel said. The conversation was part of an effort to normalize the situation in the region.

Earlier, information that Russia allegedly concentrated a large group of troops near the border with Ukraine appeared in the American media, the Pentagon had already expressed “concern” about this.

On November 2, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted the low quality of materials on the transfer of Russian military equipment to the Smolensk region. He said this, commenting on the publication of the Politico edition, which contained a factual error. “Probably, the quality of these publications is not even worth commenting on and, in general, you should not pay any attention to them. Because there we are talking about the border with Ukraine, they show the border with Belarus, etc. This quality itself is the best evidence that there is no need to waste time getting acquainted with such low-quality stuffing, ”said Peskov.

On November 1, Politico released satellite images that allegedly indicate a pulling of Russian troops and military equipment towards the Ukrainian border. The material provides pictures of armored units, artillery and infantry, allegedly taken on Monday, November 1, by Maxar Technologies in the Yelnya area in the Smolensk region, which borders Belarus, but not Ukraine.

In addition, on November 1, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that “an additional transfer of Russian units, weapons and military equipment to the state border with Ukraine has not been recorded.”
