Several people were detained in the Kemerovo Region, including the co-owner of the Listvyazhnaya coal mine, where 51 miners were killed in an explosion on 25 November. Among the detainees are the main owner of the mine, chairman of the board of directors of JSC HC SDS-Ugol Mikhail Fedyaev, general director of the company Gennady Alekseev, technical director Anton Yakutov and chief engineer of the mine Anatoly Lobanov, an official representative of the Investigative Committee (IC ) RF Svetlana Petrenko.

All were charged with violation of safety requirements, which inadvertently resulted in the death of two or more persons, as well as abuse of authority in a commercial organization, which entailed grave consequences, it is stated below. “With regard to all detainees, the investigation intends to apply for a preventive measure in the form of detention,” the department said.

Earlier, the director of the Listvyazhnaya mine Sergei Makhrakov, his first deputy Andrei Molostov, the head of the section Sergei Gerasimenok and chief state inspectors of the Belovsky territorial department of the Siberian department of Rostekhnadzor Sergei Vinokurov and Vyacheslav Semykin were detained. They were also charged with violation of security requirements, as well as negligence, the statement said. The Kemerovo District Court at the end of November arrested five persons involved in the case. According to the data of the investigation, none of them will admit the accusation.

The accident at the Listvyazhnaya coal mine in the Belovsky urban district of the Kemerovo region occurred on the morning of November 25, when a fire broke out there. According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry, at that time there were 285 miners underground. Rostekhnadzor reported that an explosion was recorded at the mine in one of the ventilation drifts.

As Russian media reported on December 1, citing the Kuzbass government, the number of people injured in the explosion reached 99. 51 people were killed. At first, 52 deaths were reported, but later one rescuer was found alive and hospitalized. A case was initiated under a criminal article on violation of industrial safety requirements, which, through negligence, resulted in the death of two or more persons.

In the course of inspections in Kuzbass after the explosion at Listvyazhnaya, almost 450 violations were revealed.

Today, in compensation for the early termination of coal mining, the federal states and coal mining companies are demanding 70 billion euros from the government in Berlin. This corresponds to the amount of 3.5 million euros per job in the coal industry that would be lost.
