Manchester United reached the cup final in England at the weekend. Nevertheless, the joy after the game is manageable.
A 3-0 lead against a second division team on Sunday wasn’t enough for Manchester United to secure a place in the cup final after just 90 minutes. The “Red Devils” conceded three more goals from Coventry City and had to go to penalties. Only there did United prevail. The criticism afterwards was great.
Coach Erik ten Hag has little understanding for this. The Dutchman said on Tuesday that he “absolutely” could not understand the negative reactions. He described this as a “disgrace”.
Ten Hag continued to address the journalists at the press conference: “One of you said it was embarrassing. Your reactions were embarrassing. Top football is about results and we deserved to reach the final. Not just on Sunday, but also in the games before.”
New edition of the previous year
The 54-year-old therefore spoke of a “huge achievement”. Being in the cup final twice in a row is “wonderful”.
Last season, United lost 2-1 to their city rivals Manchester City at Wembley, and the new edition in the English football temple will take place on May 25th. Despite this, Ten Hag (contract until 2025) is also under personal pressure; there has been speculation for weeks about his possible dismissal at the end of the season.
