Hong Myung-bo, the new head coach of the national soccer team, will visit the national teams by age group as his first official visit to the country.
The Korea Football Association announced on the 30th that Coach Hong will be observing the U-19 national team’s practice match.
Coach Hong is scheduled to watch the practice match between the U-19 national team and Ulsan University at 4 PM on the 31st at the World Cup Village in Gijang-gun, Busan.
On the 29th, during his inauguration press conference held at the Football Association building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Coach Hong stated, “Korean football is currently at a critical turning point,” and “Through the ‘MIK (Made In Korea) Project’ announced by the Football Association, we plan to establish a development system from a long-term perspective.”
Coach Hong emphasized that he must kill two birds with one stone: international competition results and long-term development.
He also promised to make active efforts to build connections between the national team and age-group teams.
Coach Hong said, “Based on my experience as the coach of the national team by age group, executive director of the Korea Football Association, and coach of Ulsan, I will build a national team that will grow together with the K-League, the root of Korean football,” and “I will also actively pursue discovering promising players who will become assets to Korean football.”
In particular, he also expressed his expectations, saying, “If the national team’s tactics are applied to the U-20 national team, the biggest advantage is that you can play right away without having to adjust to the tactics. Wherever there are young players, I want to run to watch and help them. If these things are applied, it will be a huge issue for Korean soccer.”
Hong Myung-bo, who weighed anchor amid much concern, will make his first official domestic appearance as an observer of the national team by age group.
