“For me, it was actually the biggest step here,” said Baumgart, who raved about the “Rothosen” even as a little boy: “You change your wife more often than you change your club. That’s why I’m really happy to be here.” But it won’t work with sympathy alone, he quickly added: “I’m not here because I’m a fan, but because people trust me to be able to have a positive influence here.”
Sports director Jonas Boldt, who emphasized Baumgart’s “intoxicating style”, believes in this. “It is important to maintain the fire that we have ignited and to continue on our path in a targeted manner,” said Boldt. He ended the brief attempt with Merlin Polzin in a managerial role immediately after the disappointing 2-2 draw at Hansa Rostock. Polzin will work as an assistant coach at Hanseatic Baumgart in the future.
He has already proven that the Rostock native can lead a team to promotion. With SC Paderborn, Baumgart once managed to move from the 3rd league to the Bundesliga. Most recently he left 1. FC Köln by mutual consent after two and a half years, the decision was made shortly before Christmas.
