Less than a week before the start of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, elected officials from around the country are co-signing a column “For a coalition of territories to help France win the Paris Games 2024”. Here is the full text.
« While anxiety and uncertainty permeate our society, the arrival of the Paris 2024 Games in our territory places a duty on us. Undoubtedly, in relation to the question of sport, the dynamics of the Paris Games 2024 gave victory to our cities; and not only since the Olympic flame arrived in Marseille on May 8.
This unique project was a link between the French and all the territories, a moment of unity that has been awaited especially by the local authorities who have been working for five years with the associated world to set our colleagues in motion.
We, the team of elected representatives of Terre de Jeux 2024 France, want this coalition for sport and because we need to take advantage of the momentum of the Games and show that our country is a great “Land of the Games”. This summer with the rhythm of the Olympic and Paralympic Games promises the unique emotions that will be shared in the stadiums, on the roadside but also in the hundreds of Club 2024 and other celebration areas.
This summer the Games must live on and bring us together beyond our opinions and sensitivities.
As of 2019, more than 50,000 “Terre de Jeux 2024” events have been organized across France to develop physical activity for all.
Paris 2024 inspired people, inspired energy and gave us the opportunity to involve more French people in sport but also to share the values it embodies:
• In Saint-Dizier (Marne) where the city has reinvented itself through sport with a plan to transform 100% of school yards through active design and the inauguration of the largest sports loop in France, a facility 8 km outside the walls.
• In Seine-Saint-Denis, with the deployment of the program “1,2,3, Swim!”. » enabling 9,400 children from 2021 to learn to swim and develop their aquatic skills
• In Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) where the athletes’ village is accelerating the creation of an accessible housing and sports infrastructure of international renown
• In Cesson-Sévigné (Ille-et-Vilaine) which initiated a new sports venue in the heart of the city with its white water stadium
• In foreign territories with the deployment of the Olympic and Paralympic Week and more than 10,000 students were informed.
• And in hundreds of territories that brought the Games alive among their inhabitants
France has always had a particular vision of sport. “French sport”, echoes our Republican slogan: the sport of freedom where everyone can practice it and move when and where they want. Equality of sport where all spectators must have access and practice regardless of their condition, disability or place of residence. Finally, sport-fraternity, which reminds us that it is a powerful denominator and a common experience. But these Games are also an opportunity to present a certain vision of this global event. More committed, sustainable, brilliant and innovative.
The momentum has started in Paris 2024 and now we have to think about the future; especially in communities. The Presidents of the regions, the departments, the mayors, the elected officials join this dynamic and together we will commit to ongoing activities so that all the people of France celebrate this event and continue to be committed to sport.
• By encouraging the physical activity and sports of all the students and by using the equitable use of space through the 5,000 equipment plan – Generation 2024 including the deployment of 1,500 active school classes and sports.
• By working to make our sports equipment and local facilities accessible;
• By consecrating a solid “sports” budget to continue the development of these activities in 2025 and 2026;
• By pursuing social utility commitments aimed at developing a practical offer for all audiences; especially women and spectators far from the practice;
• By bringing our excellent sports facilities to life after the Games by welcoming professional teams, French teams and foreign delegations;
• By putting more sports in the heart of our cities by developing initiatives related to Active Design or “Explore Terre de Jeux 2024” sports;
• By continuing the momentum of Paris 2024 by joining the Great National Cause to make it a reality locally to encourage people to move more on a daily basis; especially with our agents;
• Celebrate the Games with all the spectators in the heart of our cities
Although the Paris 2024 Games have been held for almost a decade, their legacy has already been felt across the country. It is up to us to strengthen it and make it a success that benefits everyone. Sustainable. »
