An orange code for thunderstorms has been announced in northwestern Croatia and southern Slovenia, local media reported, cited by BTA. Hail fell in the Croatian region of Zagorie yesterday.

The Croatian State Hydrometeorological Institute has issued an orange code for the regions of Osijek, Zagreb, Karlovac, Gospić, Dubrovnik, Knin and Split due to possible heavy rain with lightning and strong winds, Croatian national television HRT reported. A yellow code has been declared in the rest of the country.

Yesterday afternoon, the weather in Croatia changed abruptly, and hail fell in the Zagorie region. Meteorologists warn that even today it is possible for large hail to fall in some areas, notes the Croatian newspaper “Jutarni List”.

“Be prepared to protect yourself and your property. Flooding of property and the transport network is possible. An interruption of electricity, communication networks and water supply is possible,” the institute warns.

The storms are expected to die down tomorrow evening.

An orange code for thunderstorms has also been announced in the southern part of Slovenia, the Slovenian environmental agency “Arso” announced today, quoted by STA. A yellow code has been announced in the rest of the country.

Thunderstorms and strong winds worried citizens in northwestern Slovenia as early as yesterday. A severe weather code orange is expected to remain in effect until Wednesday, when forecasters forecast sunshine with scattered clouds.

Meanwhile, a high fire danger warning remains in effect in the western part of the country.
