Cofepris asks to create a Regional School of Sanitary Regulation

The objective of the Regional School of Sanitary Regulation is to train specialized professionals in the field to promote regulatory convergence.
What is intended is to have a positive impact on the implementation of innovation and regulatory harmonization.
The University of Health located in CDMX would be the institution in charge of hosting this new space.

During the Meeting of National Regulatory Authorities of Regional Reference of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) presented a new initiative. It is the creation of the first Regional School of Sanitary Regulationwith which it will seek to train specialized human resources in this matter.

Achieve better health regulation at the regional level

The purpose of this new space is to contribute to the integration of Latin America and the Caribbean. It also aspires to be a space to promote regulatory convergence and become a channel for dialogue and continuous preparation for the Evaluation of the National Regulatory Systems of Medical Products (GBT, for its acronym in English).

The Meeting of National Regulatory Authorities of Regional Reference convened by PAHO, where representatives of regulatory agencies of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, United States of America and Mexicothis year the objective was to renew commitments within the framework of the new policy to strengthen the regulatory systems of the region.

During the presentation, the head of Cofepris, Alejandro Svarch Perez, expressed the need to train personnel specialized in sanitary regulation. He said that this will positively impact the implementation of innovation and regulatory harmonization.

“This initiative by Mexico will allow us to have coordinated and vigorous educational programs, maximize the use of resources and efforts, and have an impact on the improvement and vanguard of public health in our nations.”

It was reported that one of the lines of work of the Regional School of Sanitary Regulation will be to promote the updating of regulatory frameworks to improve convergence and initiate the adoption of international standards.

Where would it be taught in Mexico?

The project establishes the approach with experts in the formation of academic programs. Similarly, he proposes that the Health University hostel to the Regional School of Sanitary Regulation and to promote alliances with the different universities specialized in health issues in the region to achieve educational integration.

Excellence and continuous improvement will be the guiding principles of this new space to transform the educational landscape of training human resources for health regulation in the region.
