The offer is wide and now it is even greater because the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) authorized several new medicines for their commercialization, among which several generics stand out.

First of all, this Commission performs more functions than many think. One of the main ones is to make constant reviews of all health care establishments. At the same time, it is also in charge of grant or deny permits to all drugs found in our country.

Since its birth in 2001, it has positioned itself as the highest governing body in the field of health control and regulation in all of Mexico.

According to current calculations, the Cofepris regulates 44 cents of every peso spent by households in Mexico. The figure is obtained through three sectors that it regulates: food, beverages and tobacco; health care articles; and personal care items.

On the other hand, Cofepris announced that the last Fortnightly Report on Therapeutic Expansion reports the authorization of 182 health supplies in the categories of medicines, medical devices and clinical trials.

Through the Sanitary Authorization Commission, Cofepris fully complies with the access to medicines, subject to strict review and ruling that verifies their safety, quality and efficacy, necessary to obtain the sanitary registry.

In the Fortnightly Report on Therapeutic Expansion, corresponding to the second half of April, Cofepris reports the authorization of 23 new medicines. Within the list stands out a generic medication for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), two oncology generic drugs and an innovative one for psoriasis.

In addition, 147 medical devices were authorized for health registration, of which 36 are for medical care. For example, hip replacement, hemodialysis catheter, among others, as well as 39 medical equipment. Among the list are: a fetal signs monitor, an endoscopic cryosurgery system and an infrared ear thermometer, among others.

This category also includes 72 reagents and equipment for the diagnosis of infectious, hereditary or metabolic diseases. Also a quick alcohol test, to mention a few.
