Cofepris now teaches the specialization in Health Law

The 2022-2023 generation of Health Law was made up of 86 students: 66 women and 20 men.
Some subjects taught are Patients’ Law, Health Protection Law, National Health System and Health Authorities, Biology and Biotechnology applied to Law, Safety Measures, Sanctions and Crimes in Health Matters.
Now Cofepris is the fourth academic venue that offers this specialization in Mexico.

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) led the graduation ceremony for graduates of the specialization in Health Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). With this, for the first time it had as its academic headquarters the facilities of the National Reference Laboratory.

This is one more action through which Cofepris contributes to improving the training and education of the personnel who work in this health agencywith specialized and innovative knowledge that translates into tools to protect the health of the population.

What is the objective of Health Law?

Students who take this specialization receive training to provide an effective response in the solution of controversies and needs of the Health sector, the pharmaceutical industry and to know the applicable protocols in terms of safety in specific problems of the labor field, using for this purpose techniques and strategies offered by Legal Science, Positive Law and the Jurisprudence.

Some of the subjects of this specialization are Patients’ Law, Health Protection Law, National Health System and Health Authorities, Biology and Biotechnology applied to Law, Safety Measures, Sanctions and Crimes in Health Mattersamong other.

The 2022-2023 generation was made up of 86 students: 66 women and 20 men, among them 54 who work in the Analytical Control and Coverage Expansion commissions (CCAYAC), Sanitary Operation (COS), Sanitary Authorization (CAS), the area and the Comprehensive Services Center (CIS) of this health authority.

During the ceremony, which took place in the “Ius Semper Loquitur” auditorium of the UNAM Law Schoolthe director of the Faculty of Law, Raúl Contreras Bustamante, congratulated the graduates of this specialization and delivered symbolic diplomas for the completion of the program.

The Commissioner for Analytical Control and Expansion of Coverage of cofeprisArmida Zúñiga Estrada, recognized the academic effort of the graduates and highlighted the collaboration with UNAM.

“In 2022 we joined as allies and today we celebrate that Cofepris has been the home of these students who today have a specialization in Health Law. Thus, we reaffirm the commitment of the institution as an ally of the professionalization of health regulation in Mexico, and also in the region”.

Where can you study Health Law?

The specialization in Health Law It was created by UNAM in 2019, open to the public. It consists of three semesters and at the end of the academic program, the professional title as a specialist in health law is issued, as well as the corresponding professional license through the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).

From 2019 to 2020, the specialization had three academic venues: Faculty of Law of the UNAM and the faculties of Higher Studies (FES) Acatlán and Aragón. Now Cofepris becomes the fourth house for the students who attend it.
