The National Investigation Agency has taken up the explosion case in which a cooking gas cylinder exploded in a car at Ukkadam, Coimbatore. This is due to the suspicion of terrorist links. A case was registered under UAPA. It is also being investigated whether it was a suicide attack.
The explosion took place near the Kottamedu temple at 4 am on Sunday. Jamesha Mubeen (25), who was driving the car, was killed in the incident. In 2019, Jamesha Mubeen, a native of Ukkadam and an engineering graduate, was questioned by the NIA on suspicion of IS links.

Coimbatore police arrested five people in connection with the blast. Those arrested are Muhammad Azharuddin, Muhammad Riaz, Muhammad Nawaz Ismail, Brice Ismail and Muhammad Tohalka of Ukkadam CM Nagar, who are closely related to Jamesha Mubeen. One of the two open cylinders in the Maruti 800 petrol car exploded.

The CCTV footage of Jamesha Mubeen loading explosives into the car was obtained. 75 kg of explosives have been seized from his house. According to reports, he is related to Muhammad Azharuddin, who is in prison in Kerala due to his connection with IS.
