Chennai/Coimbatore: In a consultative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Stalin, it was decided to recommend the central government to transfer the investigation into the case of car cylinder explosion in Coimbatore to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Jamesha Mupin (25), who was driving the car, died when a cooking gas cylinder in a car exploded near the Sangameswarar temple in Kottamedu, Coimbatore on the morning of the 23rd. DGP Sailendrababu, Additional DGP Thamaraikannan, Coimbatore Police Commissioner Balakrishnan and senior officials directly investigated this incident which shocked Tamil Nadu.

Mupin’s house was raided as bullets and nails were found with the wrecked car. In this, chemicals used to make explosives, wires and rope were seized.

Case in UPA Act: 6 special teams were formed to investigate the matter. Separate police conducted an investigation and arrested Mohammad Talha (25), Mohammad Azharuddin (23) from Ukkadam, Mohammad Riaz (27), Peroz Ismail (27) and Mohammad Nawaz Ismail (26) from GM Nagar. A case was registered against them under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UPA).

Mubin, who is now deceased, is said to have had links with Mohammed Azharuddin, who was arrested in connection with the Easter 2019 church bombings in Sri Lanka and is incarcerated in Kerala. Thus, it is noteworthy that the NIA officials conducted an inspection at Mubin’s house in 2019 itself.

In this case, in response to the explosion of a car cylinder in Coimbatore, security has been increased at temples across Tamil Nadu. Vehicle inspection has been intensified in Coimbatore. Police said that more than 20 people are being interrogated in connection with this incident and if necessary, house searches will be conducted. Parties including BJP and AIADMK have condemned the incident.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Stalin held a meeting with the Chief Secretary and officials at the Chennai Secretariat yesterday.

In this regard, the Tamil Nadu government issued a press release yesterday saying: Last Oct. A consultation was held under the leadership of Chief Minister Stalin regarding the ongoing investigation into the car cylinder explosion that occurred on 23rd and the general law and order situation.

In this, the investigation conducted regarding the car cylinder explosion, the precautionary measures taken in the Coimbatore district and the security arrangements were discussed.

In this meeting, it was decided to recommend the central government to transfer the investigation of the case to the National Investigation Agency as there is a possibility of cross-state developments and international connections in this case.

Special Forces: Also, to further strengthen the security of the city of Coimbatore, 3 new police stations should be set up immediately at Karambukadai, Sundarapuram and Kaundambalayam.

To prevent such incidents from happening in the future, a separate special force should be created in the police department.

Major cities of Tamil Nadu should install additional modern surveillance cameras in densely populated areas. Additional officers should be appointed in the intelligence wing.

Chief Minister Stalin directed the authorities to provide adequate protection and encourage those who provide information about those involved in illegal activities and their contacts.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Thaoyanpu, Home Secretary Panindra Reddy, DGP Sailendra Babu, Intelligence Division ADGP Davidson Dewasirwadham. This is stated in the press release. NIA officials swung into action

National Investigation Agency (NIA) DIG Vandana, S.P. A team of officers led by Sreejith arrived in Coimbatore last night. The NIA team, which inspected the area where the car cylinder exploded in Kottamed, held a consultation with city police officials yesterday. Then, they asked about the background of the arrested persons.

Subsequently, the NIA team is camping in Coimbatore and collecting information related to the case. However, since the case has not been officially transferred to the NIA, the investigation of the case remains with the Coimbatore Police Department.

After the order is duly promulgated, the NIA officials will register a fresh First Information Report and continue the investigation.
