The distribution of Pongal gift sets in Coimbatore district has officially begun. Starting yesterday, rice card holders in the district have begun receiving their Pongal gift package from the Tamil Nadu government, which includes Rs.1,000 in cash, along with one kg of sweet rice, sugar, and sugarcane.

In an effort to streamline the distribution process and avoid any confusion among the public, tokens are being issued for the distribution of the Pongal packages. From the 10th to the 14th of January, the Pongal packages will be distributed through ration shops in the district.

The distribution of tokens is being carried out by ration shop staff, with a total of 8.56 lakh tokens set to be distributed through 1,140 ration shops in the district. The tokens will be issued biometrically at the ration shop vending machine, and details of the Pongal package will be sent to the family cardholder’s mobile phone number via SMS.

The tokens will include details of the family cardholder, as well as information on the Pongal gift package, including the date and time for collection. This system aims to ensure a smooth and organized distribution process, allowing all eligible rice card holders to receive their Pongal gift sets in a timely manner.

Overall, the distribution of Pongal gift sets is aimed at providing support to the rice card holders in Coimbatore district, allowing them to celebrate the traditional festival of Pongal with joy and festivities.
