CoinEx suffers $28 million hacker attack

BlockTrends – Cryptocurrency broker CoinEx revealed this Tuesday (12) that it was the victim of a hacker attack on its hot wallets. In this sense, hackers invaded their hot wallets, which have an internet connection.

The attack resulted in the loss of approximately US$28 million (equivalent to R$138.32 million) in digital assets. The information was officially released by CoinEx on its X account, formerly Twitter.

CoinEx’s Risk Control System has identified anomalous withdrawals from several of its hot wallets. In quick response, the broker set up a special investigation team to analyze the incident.

So far, hackers have transferred around 4,946 units of () and 354,762 of Tron (TRX), as well as other cryptocurrencies such as (MATIC), (UNI), Graph Token (GRT) and The Sandbox (SAND).

CoinEx has assured its users that their assets are safe and that those affected by the attack will receive full compensation for any loss. Therefore, CoinEx has temporarily suspended deposit and withdrawal services as a precautionary measure and will only resume them after a thorough review.

“We guarantee all users: your assets are safe and untouched. Affected parties will receive 100% compensation for any loss due to this breach. For greater security, deposit and withdrawal services are temporarily suspended and will resume after a complete analysis,” it states.

Furthermore, after the attack, CoinEx’s token, CoinEx Token (CET), suffered a drop of around 12%. However, the attack does not have a significant impact on the prices of major cryptocurrencies such as .

CoinEx is one of the 100 largest cryptocurrency brokers in the world, ranking 57th in trading volume, according to CoinMarketCap. With more than 4 million users, the broker has around US$32.7 million in assets.
