A new cold front that arrived on Wednesday (11) in the South should bring rain and cooling to the region. Between Thursday (12) and Friday (13), storms are expected in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and western Santa Catarina.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), it is estimated that there will be up to 50 millimeters of rain in a large part of Rio Grande do Sul this Thursday (12) and that winds will reach up to 60 km/h.

Despite the predicted weather change, it will not be strong enough to permanently break the atmospheric barrier that keeps the high temperatures recorded across the country.

The atmospheric barriers are characterized by high pressure systems that favor temperature rise and prevent the formation of large rain clouds. In addition, they complicate the progress of cold fronts through the interior of Brazil.

To the g1Fábio Luengo, meteorologist at Climatempo, the cold front should end the heat wave in the South, east of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and south of Mato Grosso do Sul But should only progress and the Southeast and the Midwest reach weekend.

“In São Paulo, for example, she [frente fria] It only comes on Sundays. Until then, the weather will still be very hot, including on Saturday”, says Luengo.

The states that should feel the biggest drop in temperature are Paraná, Santa Catarina and north of Rio Grande do Sul In the Central West, Mato Grosso do Sul, south of Mato Grosso and south of Goiás, should not this would only happen at the end of the week. In the Southeast, the cold front should reduce the extreme heat, especially in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and southern Minas Gerais.

Despite the relief, it must be momentary. Meteorologists predicted that the heat should return after three days at most, in almost all of Brazil.

“We have not yet managed to find the exact day when it will be hot again, but in the South, in São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, around Wednesday or Thursday next week, the temperature should rise again” , says Luengo.

Low humidity despite the cold front

Despite the approach of the cold front, there should be low humidity levels in almost all of Brazil. The most important situation is still in the central region of the country, for example, all the states in the Central West. In addition to the region, humidity levels should be between 30% and 20% in the west of Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, west of Minas Gerais, west of the Northeast states, south of Pará, south of Amazonas and Rondonia.

Therefore, it is recommended to avoid health problems:

  • Drink plenty of fluids;
  • Avoid physical wear and tear during the driest hours;
  • Avoid exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day.

rain (?)

  • The atmospheric barrier in the central region of Brazil is considered strong and should take time to break;
  • Josélia Pegorim, a meteorologist at Climatempo, expressed that it is not yet expected to rain again in the short term in the country;
  • “We will only begin to think about these rain showers that fall almost every evening from the second half of October onwards”, he says;
  • Until then, more rain should occur in isolated points on the east coast of the North East, south of the North East, in parts of the South East coast and in the far North;
  • Pegorim remembers that only heavy rain is able to put an end to the pollution and smoke that has happened again in the sky in Brazil in recent weeks.
