/ The harsh winter weather has halted the production of millions of barrels of oil in the United States, while production is not expected to return to normal levels for weeks.
According to a report published by Bloomberg, during the past week, production across America decreased by about 10 million barrels after snow covered parts of the US state of Texas, while North Dakota is experiencing a wave of severe cold, while production is not expected to return to normal levels for weeks.
The report estimates the amount of production stopped in the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico at about 6 million barrels, while the amount of production stopped in the Bakken in North Dakota is about 3.5 million barrels.
The report explained that extremely low temperatures cause water in oil wells to congeal, leading to production shutdowns.
Icy roads also make it difficult for dump trucks used to transport wastewater to reach drilling rigs.
