TRENTO. More measures to protect mountain pastures from large carnivores and less bureaucracy for agricultural businesses. These are the main demands of the demonstration organized this morning (July 11) by Coldiretti of Trentino-Alto Adige in Piazza Dante in Trento, under the political buildings. The farmers took to the streets with tractors, flags and even two donkeys.

First item on the agenda, the request for “concrete and immediate” answers in the management of large carnivores. “There is a lot of frustration among our members and among our breeders. There is a lot of fear of going up to the mountain pastures, but also fear of living in the territory. What we are asking for is simply to move from a conservation regime to a management regime of the problem”, said the president of Coldiretti of Trentino-Alto Adige Gianluca Barbacovi, according to whom there is no need for “particularly drastic solutions, but we must be more incisive”.

“We all need to work – said Barbacovi – we all need to do a little more also to be able to manage the issue at a European level and to be able to modify the Habitats Directive, which still places the wolf and these animals among the highly protected species. We also need to work on the management of the mountain pastures in close synergy with the Province and Municipalities, putting the role of the farmer as manager and guardian of the territory at the center”.
