The city of Vienna was in the spotlight in August for a sad reason: Taylor Swift’s concerts in the Austrian capital had to be canceled at short notice due to the threat of terrorism, resulting in several arrests.
Now Coldplay is performing at the Ernst Happel Stadium – the band’s four concerts led by Chris Martin are taking place under tightened security precautions. On the first night, the singer made a statement. Taylor Swift was not personally in the stadium, but she was definitely a topic of the evening.
Coldplay surprises with a tribute to Taylor Swift
There had been rumors that Taylor Swift might even join Coldplay on stage as a special guest. However, that is not expected to happen at the concerts.
“We really thought about it, but Taylor Swift will not come on stage with us in Vienna. She will not sing with us!” Chris Martin confirmed this week according to “oe24” during a fan talk. Such an act would have been “the wrong signal for all the Swifties,” he cautioned.

However, the musician made sure to incorporate his colleague into the Coldplay show in another way: The band covered Taylor Swift’s song “Love Story” from the album “Fearless.”
Chris Martin also spoke about the reason why the Taylor Swift shows were recently canceled and took the opportunity to deliver an anti-terror message.

“Vienna was recently in the headlines worldwide, but for completely the wrong reasons,” the singer explained initially. However, the band is excited about the solidarity and warmth of the Swifties. The tribute song is not only sung out of love for Taylor Swift and her fans:
“We sing the song [also] for young people who have been brainwashed and wanted to do stupid things!”
In recent days, many Swifties expressed disappointment that the singer initially remained silent about the events in Vienna. However, on the night of August 22, Taylor Swift shared a detailed statement on her Instagram account.
“I will not publicly speak about something if I think it could provoke those who want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” she clarified, among other things. She wanted to complete the European part of her tour safely, and she succeeded in doing that.
