Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell died this Monday from complications derived from covid19, as confirmed by his family. The official, who served during the term of George W. Bush, was 84 years old and had the complete anticovid vaccination scheme.

“General Colin L. Powell, former US Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away this morning due to complications from COVID-19. I was fully vaccinated ”, The family confirmed the news of the death in a statement.

Powell, the first African-American to command the US military.

Colin Powell was born in New York City and joined the military after graduating from the City University of New York. He rose through the ranks of the military to become a national security adviser to then-President Ronald Reagan. He was later appointed chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest-ranking military appointment in the Department of Defense.

Powell served as Secretary of State under former President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, overseeing US diplomacy in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
