Kanchipuram: Despite various warnings issued by the Labor Welfare Department, child laborers are employed in various shops and companies. In the last three years, 48 ​​cases related to child labor have been proven and fined, the Labor Welfare Department said.

In the districts of Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu, between 2019-21 and last July, labor department inspectors and officials conducted inspections in commercial establishments, shops, motor companies, food establishments. In this, it was revealed that 48 companies employed children and adolescent workers under the age of 14. Subsequently, a case has been filed against its owners, proved in court, and 7 lakh 60 thousand rupees have been collected and paid into the government account, according to the Department of Labor Welfare.

Legal action will be taken against companies employing child labor and a fine of 20,000 rupees will be imposed, Kanchipuram Assistant Commissioner of Labor Welfare Yeshapana said.
