Gatherers from Saltillo stood peacefully outside the MaxiHome store on Venustiano Carranza Boulevard, where three trees were recently chopped down. They accused the company of environmental damage and violating local regulations.
Around 5:00 pm, organizations such as Casa Floral, Aire Saltillo, and En Defensa del Nogal joined the demonstration alongside environmental defenders.
The controversy arose when MaxiHome workers cut down the trees on Wednesday, claiming they obstructed the store’s view. The manager, who struggled to communicate in Spanish, later admitted he had misunderstood the order and regretted the unintended damage.
The action sparked outrage on social media, and now those responsible must appear before a city judge to face sanctions.
During the demonstration, protesters set up camp in the MaxiHome parking lot, collecting signatures and raising awareness about the importance of preserving urban trees. They used interactive maps and other resources to educate the community about the dangers of unauthorized logging.
The protesters also presented a petition to the authorities, demanding:
- Appropriate sanction for MaxiHome for violating tree protection protocols.
- Training for the company on urban tree conservation.
- Return of the felled trees.
This protest highlights the community’s commitment to environmental preservation and their determination to keep Saltillo green and conscious.
