Coimbatore: Collector Kranthikumar ordered to speed up the acquisition of land required for the flyover work being constructed on the Coimbatore-Avinasi road.

A 10 km four-lane flyover is being constructed on the Coimbatore-Avinasi road from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins at a cost of Rs 1,621.30 crore. In connection with this work, Collector Kranthikumar conducted an investigation.

Land should be acquired in VUC, Maidan, Annadurai statue, Nava India, Hope College and Chitra areas where landing platforms are to be constructed. The officials of the highways department appealed to the collector that this work should be speeded up.

A special unit has been created in the State Highways Department to acquire highway land. Collector Krantikumar, who contacted the villagers, advised them to speed up the land acquisition work.

Mining corridor

State Highway Department officials said:

Avinasi Road flyover works, 42 percent completed. An overhead runway has been constructed between 80 runways. So far, Rs 481 crore has been spent.

For the public to cross the road without difficulty, underpass will be constructed in five areas namely Krishnammal College, KMCCH, Hospital, GRG, School, PSG, College and Lakshmi Mill Junction.

A 1.5 meter wide drain with pavement will be constructed on both sides of the bridge.

Thus, they said.

Collector Kranti Kumar said, “They said that they can only work at three places a week as there are only three machines to sweep the runway.

In addition, I instructed to bring machinery, speed up the work and immediately start the construction of boarding and disembarking platforms in government-owned places,” he said.
