Colombia continues to seek to bolster its participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. So far, its only medal has been a silver in artistic gymnastics, thanks to Ángel Barajas.
This Wednesday, August 7, Independence Day, the Colombian delegation hopes to surprise with some Olympic podium finishes. The day will also see the debut of several athletes.
For example, Flor Denis Ruiz, one of Colombia’s flag bearers, will make her debut in the javelin throw qualifiers.
Kevin Quintero, the other flag bearer, will also debut in France, although he will compete in the sprint, which is not his strongest event.
Martha Bayona, on the other hand, will compete in her best event, the keirin, in which she will contest the qualifying round.
Possible sources of a medal?
While Colombia also competes in other disciplines such as sailing, wrestling, golf, and diving, besides track cycling and athletics qualifiers, the spotlight will be on race walking this Wednesday.
After Sandra Lorena Arenas’s fourth place in the individual event, it is now time for the mixed relay event.
The athlete from Risaralda will compete with Mateo Romero, while Laura Chalarca will team up with César Herrera. Colombia hopes for a good placement from one of the pairs in a sport that is not on many people’s radar.
