“We participated in this liberation as neutral intermediaries, at the request of the parties involved and for a strictly humanitarian purpose. We thank all arms bearers for respecting our neutral humanitarian work,” said Zaloa Rasines, ICRC delegate in Medellín.

International humanitarian law binds all parties to an armed conflict, regardless of whether or not there are peace negotiations or a ceasefire. We remind all armed actors of their obligation to respect it at all times.

“We reiterate our willingness to facilitate any humanitarian operation that leads to reducing the suffering of people affected by armed conflicts and violence, always from the confidential and bilateral dialogue that we carry out with all parties,” Rasines added.

The ICRC appreciates the public interest in the operations it carries out; however, for the protection of the released persons and respect for their families, it does not provide specific personal data.
