“We participated in this release, as a neutral intermediary, at the request of the parties involved and for a strictly humanitarian purpose. The ICRC is willing to facilitate other actions that help mitigate the humanitarian consequences that persist in Colombia,” said Kian Abbassian, head of the ICRC sub-delegation in Cali.
The ICRC team examined the person and established that he was in good health. Later she was reunited with her family.
“Confidential dialogue with all armed actors is a fundamental element of our humanitarian work. We invite arms bearers to continue to trust our neutral work and to facilitate our access to the areas most affected by armed conflict and violence in order to help to people who need it,” Abbassian added.
So far this year, the ICRC has received 12 people who were in the hands of armed groups.
