In the country, foreign sales of confectionery have increased by 19% between January and July of this year, compared to the same period in 2023. The departments that export the most are Valle del Cauca, Caldas and Antioquia, which stand out for the production of their traditional gummies, lollipops and chocolates.
And between January and July 2024, US$259 million worth of confectionery was exported, with the United States, Venezuela and Ecuador being the main buyers of these products, according to figures from the Dian, with analysis by Analdex. When comparing the period
January to July 2023 with the same in 2024, a positive variation of 19% was found in foreign sales of confectionery.

The most prominent products are chocolates, candies, sweets and pastilles, which represent 43% of the exports of this sector. Followed by other confectionery items without cocoa (including white chocolate), which increased by 13%, from US$39 million to US$44 million. In turn, other chocolates and other food preparations based on cocoa had a positive variation of 57%, from US$19 million during January and July 2023 to US$30 million between January and July 2024.
According to Andrés Serna Rojas, logistics director of Compañía Nacional de Chocolates, “Halloween is the fourth most important season of the year for the business, with domestic sales accounting for 9%.” This company was founded in 1920, so its products have been part of the childhood of several generations and they hope to continue surprising consumers with a portfolio full of new flavors, eye-catching packaging, small portions, and multipack bags.
