Bogota
Leftist candidate Gustavo Petro leads Colombia in Sunday’s presidential election. With 99.9 per cent of the vote count completed, Petro received 40.3 per cent of the vote. Opposition candidate Rodolfo Hernandez received 28.2 percent of the vote.

In a country where the far right has been in power for decades, there has been a strong movement of the Left. But with no one getting 50 percent of the vote, the country will move to a second round of voting on June 19. Opinion polls predict that former guerrilla fighter Historical Pact candidate Petro will win. The prediction that center-right candidate Federico Gutierrez would come in second, however, came to naught. Guttierez, who came in third in the poll, reportedly backed Hernandez in the second round.
Out of a total of 3.9 crore voters, 2.1 crore exercised their right to vote on Sunday.
