Colombia: grains of hope in the north of Chocó

by time news

Many of the inhabitants of this region in the west of the country had to be forcibly displaced, others resisted long periods of confinement, to which was added the uncertainty of living with explosive devices installed around the communities.

In the midst of this situation of violence, we led, together with the community of northern Chocó, a project to make rice an alternative for their lives.

“We did an initial evaluation where the families stated that this community had been displaced seven times and two years ago they had not planted rice due to the floods. Their desire was to resume the cultivation of this grain, which is one of the most predominant in their diet,” he explained. Yerani Rodríguez, ICRC Economic Security Officer in Colombia.
