This Thursday (24), Colombia granted nationality to the writer Sergio Ramírez, a symbol of the more than 300 Nicaraguan opponents who were stripped of their citizenship by the regime of Daniel Ortega, informed the Colombian foreign ministry.

The act took place at the Colombian embassy in Madrid, where Ramírez has resided since 2021, and was chaired by Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva Durán.

Ramírez was one of more than 300 opponents whose nationality was stripped by Daniel Ortega’s government in February, declaring them “traitors of the homeland”. In addition, he left them unable to hold public office.
