On October 2, Colombia will once again participate in the National Emergency Response Drill, an exercise that seeks to measure and strengthen the country’s response capacity to natural disasters.
This drill, which has been conducted annually, It has become a fundamental tool for improving coordination mechanisms between different levels of government, the private sector and the community in general.
The initiative, led by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), aims to not only to evaluate existing strategies, but also to promote citizen preparation for possible emergencies, from natural disasters such as earthquakes to other risk situations.
Neiva will focus on earthquake drill
In the city of Neiva, authorities have reported that the focus of this year’s drill will be an earthquakegiven the high level of vulnerability that the region presents due to its location in a geological zone with important faults. With this simulation, the aim is to prepare citizens and local institutions to respond effectively to an earthquake, minimising possible impacts.

The drill will involve both public and private entities, as well as community and social organizations, with the aim of ensuring that all actors know their roles and responsibilities in an emergency. At the national level, this drill will be carried out simultaneously in all regions of the country, involving local governments, private companies, educational and social institutions, who will actively participate in fine-tuning their emergency protocols.
