The delegation of more than two thousand young Colombians is ready to participate in World Youth Day (WYD), which will take place in Lisbon (Portugal) from August 1 to 6, and will be attended by Pope Francis.

As reported by the Episcopal Conference of Colombia (CEC), the Bishop of Tumaco, Bishop Orlando Olave Villanoba, and the Auxiliary Bishop of Bogotá, Bishop Germán Medina Acosta, will represent the Episcopate and will accompany “the coordinators, delegates and volunteers of the country in this WYD”.

“Many of these young people are already in Portugal, some coordinating the logistics of actions that they will carry out as a delegation, others ready to participate in the pre-conference,” the CEC explained on its website.

In statements collected by the CEC, seminarian Rafael Beltrán explained that WYD Lisbon 2023 will be an experience in which “we will break horizons.”

“We will meet the Church in the person of the Holy Father, with the Church in the person of the young people with whom we hope to share an experience of faith that will encourage us, not only those of us who will be present in Lisbon, but all Colombian youth. ”, affirmed Beltrán, who also coordinates the delegation “A dream called Lisbon”, made up of 190 young people from the dioceses of Zipaquirá and Fontibón, the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, the Yeshu’a Bible School, the Genesis Community and the Minute of God.

During the preparation, the Department of Lay State of the CEC, from its Youth Ministry section, has been motivating the participation of the different ecclesiastical jurisdictions through its coordinators and delegates.

A few days before WYD Lisbon 2023 begins, Msgr. Medina has asked the faithful to accompany the young people with their prayers so that this meeting with Pope Francis means “a real encounter with the person of Jesus, whom the Holy Father It represents”.

For his part, Msgr. Olave assured that after the event in Portugal the young people will return to each of the regions of Colombia with the firm mission of continuing to communicate the Gospel, “announcing a young Christ, a vital Christ, a Christ who gives hope ”.
