A woman who worked as a prosecutor in Colombia for over 13 years and rose to the position of branch manager has been sentenced to prison after it was revealed that she had falsified her degrees and qualifications.

According to Mexican media outlet El Imparcial and others on the 5th (local time), the Colombian judiciary sentenced former La Guajira District Attorney Claudia Elena Lozano Doria to 12 years and 9 months in prison on the 25th of last month on charges of fraud and document forgery.

Claudia is a veteran prosecutor who has worked as a prosecutor in various Caribbean jurisdictions since 2000. She was recognized for her ability to arrest and prosecute numerous criminals, and was promoted to the position of Chief Prosecutor in La Guajira, the provincial city where she was first assigned.

After moving to several institutions, he tried to become a judge in 2013. However, when the personnel office that received his resume checked his ID number, nothing came up. He even checked the list of registered lawyers in the country through the judiciary, but the result was the same.

Claudia’s fraud was eventually discovered 13 years later when she submitted documents to run for a judgeship, but the documents turned out to be forged. It was reported that she had borrowed her friend’s law degree and certificates and submitted them as her own.

Claudia claimed, “I only had a degree, but I completed all the relevant education at law school.” He filed 12 objections and invalidation lawsuits, but they were all rejected. In the end, after 11 years, he was sentenced to 12 years and 9 months in prison.

The cases he handled during his 13-year career as a prosecutor are also being reviewed. Local media reported that Claudia handled hundreds of cases, leading to more than 100 criminal charges and civil lawsuits being filed against him.
