Between January and July of this year, exports of this exotic fruit reached 2.8 million dollars, reflecting an increase in global demand.
The Danish ambassador to Colombia, Erik Høeg, witnessed the arrival of passion fruit to his countrysurprising even the diplomat himself. In a message posted on the social network X, Høeg shared: “Incredible. Colombian passion fruit arrived at my supermarket in Denmark. First time I see them here. Still a very exotic and quite expensive product”.

The answer did not take long to arrive. The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, Luis Carlos Reyes, celebrated the event on the same platform: “Dear Erik Høeg, we are very happy to know that it is now possible to enjoy this wonderful fruit in your country Denmark. As information of interest, we tell you that between January and July of this 2024, passion fruit exports reached 2.8 million dollars.”
This growth adds to the good results of 2023, when passion fruit exports totaled 4.8 million dollars. Despite representing just 0.4% of global citrus fruit exports and 0.02% of Colombia’s total non-mining goods, passion fruit has found a solid niche in the international market thanks to its sweet and exotic flavor. .
