The Colombian Senate, which recently adopted a motion supporting the territorial integrity of Morocco, “categorically” rejects the government’s decision to establish diplomatic relations with the Polisario or “to legitimize its presence” on Colombian territory, he said during a joint press briefing with the president of the House of Advisors, Naam Miyara.
“There is great concern within the Colombian parliament, following the decision of the current government to legitimize, for the first time, the presence of the Polisario on the national territory,” said Mr. German Blanco.
On this occasion, he presented the motion adopted by the Colombian Senate, which gave unequivocal support to the territorial integrity of Morocco and its sovereignty over its Sahara, while reiterating the categorical rejection by “the legitimate representatives of the Colombian people” of “the ill-advised decision” of the current government to establish relations with the pseudo-SADR.
In this sense, he pointed out that the signatories of this motion categorically reject the relations that the current Colombian government maintains with the Polisario.
“The Colombians, whom we represent in the Senate, attach great importance to relations with Morocco, which we wish to maintain in the future,” continued Senator German Blanco, highlighting the historical ties of brotherhood between the two states.
He also noted that Colombian legislators are working to safeguard and strengthen relations between Morocco and Colombia, as should have been done by the current president, whose foreign policy “does not represent us.”
For his part, the President of the House of Councilors stressed the importance of the adoption of this new motion, describing it as an important parliamentary decision.
These discussions, Mr. Mayara continued, made it possible to examine ways of developing exchanges around issues of common parliamentary interest.
“The decision of the Colombian Senate is a clear expression of support for the legitimate right of the Kingdom of Morocco over its entire territory,” noted the president of the chamber of advisers.
During their visit to the Kingdom, the members of the delegation led by Mr. German Blanco will hold a series of meetings with several Moroccan officials.
