Colombia’s U20 Women Secure Victory Against Mexico Despite Yunaira López’s Injury Scare

by time news

The Colombian women’s U20 national team faces Mexico on the third date of the group stage and, although they won 1-0, they suffered an important loss in the first half: Yunaira López left the field on a stretcher after a strong blow.

The Tricolor went ahead on the scoreboard with a goal from Mary Alvarez in the 38th minute, who scored with a header from a corner kick.

In the 40th minute, Mexico sought the equalizer with a free kick and sent in a cross. As the ball was in the air, goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo went out to clear the ball and, in the process, collided with López, who was left lying on the ground.

Immediately, the Colombian players called for medical attention and a stretcher was brought onto the field. Yunaira received care as quickly as possible and ultimately left the field on a stretcher.

The broadcast from Dsports was able to confirm that Yunaira was transported by ambulance to the hospital and that, as a precaution, the concussion protocol was activated.

Yunaira was replaced by Maithe López, although this substitution did not “count” for Colombia due to being part of the aforementioned protocol.

The first medical report on Yunaira López

The player was taken to Pablo Tobon Hospital in Medellín, where the first medical report was issued stating that López entered “urgently due to a mild cranioencephalic trauma.”
