The Colombian women’s national team has made history in this group stage of the Olympic women’s football tournament. They achieved their first victory in their record, against New Zealand 2-0, after going winless in London 2012 and Rio 2016, and they also managed for the first time to qualify for the quarter-finals, ensuring the Olympic diploma for the national team.
However, the aspirations of the players led by Ángelo Marsiglia are much higher. After their best performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023, the tricolor team knows they can compete against any opponent and play on equal terms. Now they will have to face Spain, the current world champions.
The Iberian squad is a serious candidate to win the gold medal, with a perfect record of victories in the group stage against Japan (2-1), Nigeria (1-0), and Brazil (2-0), reaffirming their status as favorites.
