(ANSA) – MILAN, AUGUST 1 – A new board game dedicated to children to help teachers and parents recognize color blindness early and preliminarily. It is called ColorFit and was created by the University of Milan, as part of the Game4CED project, launched in 2023 and which aims to provide new tools for a school practice of greater accessibility for color blind children.
The project is coordinated by Alessandro Rizzi, professor of Multimedia Project and Colorimetry at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milan and involves, for the Milanese university, the research fellows Carlo Alberto Iocco and Daniele Aurelio, together with researchers from the Department of Education and Human Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
“In evaluating and comparing the different levels of accessibility for colorblind players – explains Alessandro Rizzi – we realized that often a person discovers they are colorblind at a relatively advanced age, sometimes even after twenty years of age and we therefore asked ourselves why many colorblind children are not recognized for example during primary school where the educational activity is very often centered on color”.
The possibility of diagnosing color blindness in children, also thanks to ColorFit, “aims to lead to a better understanding of this condition, improve their well-being and reduce the risk of discrimination”, he adds.
ColorFit was also presented during the first Board Games Research Meeting on July 18 at Statale. “Board games are not only a moment of leisure but are also an extremely effective tool for transmitting knowledge and for attracting attention to important and delicate issues”, concludes Professor Rizzi.
Other games are currently in development: Color Catch, a team game in which cards are obtained through the additive sum of colors scheme; Mushrooms Forest, where players compete in collecting colored mushrooms, and Colorology, in which players compete with the aim of creating the correct color chain without being able to communicate with each other.
