Column Through the eyes of… André Lampe: Freedom, happiness

by time news

We have been living for months without restrictions, but what a person has learned from that extremely annoying coronavirus and the resulting lockdowns is that the freedom and the associated possibilities to do things spontaneously again is a great thing. Now everything is possible and allowed again, do you also realize how drastic the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus were.

In addition to his daily worries, every person needs relaxation and some activities and thank God this is possible again. I also notice that I am much more aware of people and their worries nowadays. In recent years it was different. Because of the lockdowns you rarely spoke to people outside your inner circle. We got our groceries, kept our distance everywhere, with a mouth cap on the snout and for the rest a person was at home a lot.

Bizarre really, when you think about it. It shouldn’t have lasted longer either. You could almost get used to the fact that dullness was a good thing in life. I also had a lot to do with the youth. I can still see my daughter sitting in her bedroom, taking home lessons from school. I thought it was a sad sight, it cut through my soul. Better to erase that image from my retina for good.

Although, the experts on corona and all variants and excrescences thereof, are once again sketching us a possible doomsday scenario. They say it could happen again in the fall. A lockdown due to a massive outbreak of the virus or a variant thereof. I think out loud now. We now live happily, spontaneously and uninhibitedly.

Last week was also so much fun, in the morning to the football field, in the afternoon to the city, and in the evening the crazy bingo in De Zuidwester. I didn’t win, but luckily I did win afterwards. Life can be lived again. There is plenty on the agenda for the Steenwijkerlanders: the evening four days, concerts in the park, Stone City Run, Dicky Woodstock, the Vestingfeesten, a Monkey Fun Run and whatnot.

Freedom, joy, no restrictions or distance and just being able to do what comes to mind spontaneously. You learn to appreciate and cherish the free life. That damned virus and the associated lockdowns have shown us that again…
