Very important and positive news about vaccination appeared this week. The COVID-19 vaccinations have prevented many hospital admissions, the RIVM reported. According to a conservative estimate by the RIVM, there are almost 88,000 hospital admissions in just over a year. Over the entire period that the coronavirus has gripped us and the vaccination rounds that have been carried out over several years, it is probably about even more admissions that were prevented with vaccination.

Most admissions occurred in people aged 60 and older: almost 70,000. That is almost as many as all residents of Velsen put together. A similar study was carried out to see how the repeat injection works. The RIVM has now also made statements about this.

Three times less chance of hospitalization

The group of over-60s who received a repeat injection this fall are almost three times less likely to be admitted to hospital than people who decided against an extra round. In addition, they had a twice smaller chance of an IC admission than people who had already received at least one vaccination.

Good news

These results are good news because they show that vaccination works. It ensures that we know why we are doing it and why it is important that our employees are there for you at the vaccination locations.

A repeat injection without an appointment

You can now come there without an appointment for a repeat shot. But to make vaccination even more accessible, we have also started vaccinating in the neighborhood again from this week. This means that in almost all municipalities you can go to small pop-up locations without an appointment for a repeat injection.

All dates and locations

On Vaccination in the district | GGD Kennemerland has an overview with the dates and locations. I hope that these positive messages strengthen us all and make us believe that we are on the right track.
